or by sending a message to discuss-faq@vlug.org.

discuss@vlug.org
----------------
The discuss list is an open forum for the exchange of Linux infor-
mation, Linux ideas, Linux culture, as well as to help new and more
experienced users of Linux with questions. The list is focused on
the Victoria area, but we do not limit our subscribers by where
they live. Feel free to post to the list; your message will be
automagically sent to all subscribers on the list (approx. 200).
The list is message moderated, meaning that your post must be approved
by one of the moderators. If it is not approved, you will receive a
rejection notice.
Subscribing
-----------
To subscribe to discuss, send an empty e-mail message to
discuss-subscribe@vlug.org. You will then receive a confirmation
message that you must reply to in order to be actually subscribed to
the list. This keeps other persons from signing you up to the list
without you knowing.
Unsubscribing
-------------
Likewise, to unsubscribe from discuss, send an "empty" e-mail message to
discuss-unsubscribe@vlug.org. You will again be sent a confirmation
message you must reply to in order to be actually unsubscribed from the
list.
Archive
-------
There is a web based archive online at http://vlug.org/lists/discuss/.
You can also do a search on the archive there. You can also retrieve
an archive from the list. Send a message to discuss-help@vlug.org for
more info.
Digest
------
The list typically sees about 10-20 messages per day. If you are not
"into" to all this traffic, you may subscribe the digest version of the
mailing list, discuss-digest@vlug.org. Subscribing/unsubscribing is
similar to that explained above. Note that you should unsubscribe from
discuss if you subscribe to discuss-digest, or else you will get both!
Guidelines
----------
This e-mail list is operated by the Victoria Linux Users Group: The
Association of Linux Users in Victoria (VLUG), a registered Society
in the Province of British Columbia. VLUG's elected Board of
Directors (BoD) has final authority as to participants and appropriate
policy for the VLUG e-mail lists.
Participation on the VLUG mailing lists must be conducted under your
real name and regular e-mail account. Aliases are not allowed, as too
many problems have occurred in the past with people using multiple
identities.
Please observe general "netiquette" when posting to the list. If you
are new to mail lists, please visit this web page:
http://www.yorku.ca/teachtec/faq/netikit.htm
Please restrict the subject matter of your posts to LINUX and VICTORIA
LINUX RELATED MATERIAL as much as possible. We're pretty flexible about
"Linux related Material" but on occasion we will make a comment about
threads which we think should stop. Some examples of off-topic posts
include virus warnings, how to design a web page, Microsoft bashing,
excessive political discussion or conspiracy theory.
Postings of job openings are encouraged, but only for real full-time
positions or multi-week contracts. If you are not sure if your posting
is appropriate, feel free to contact the list administrator for feedback.
E-mail address is below.
If you are replying to a post that is not of general interest to the
rest of the list, please respond privately to the poster and not to the
entire discuss list. If you take exception to something someone has
posted to the list, either be civil in your response, or don't respond
publicly. Very specifically, so-called "flame bait" messages, or
posts intended to incite anger should not be posted to the list.
Currently, the following types of messages are considered
inappropriate to the list, and repeated attempts to post such messages
can result in removal from the list:
o Personal attacks on other participants. Regardless of how much
someone may be wrong, there is no need to get personal to point out
errors.
o Swearing. There is very little latitude here.
o Minority jokes or insults of any kind. There is no latitude here.
o Obvious self-promotion, either personal or corporate.
o Talking about how much you like your job or co-workers.
By posting to this mailing list you give consent to unlimited
redistribution of your post, and agree to these acceptable use policies.
We reserve the right to reject any message or to unsubscribe anyone
at any time, and to change the list configuration as we see fit.
Membership in VLUG does not guarantee access to any of the VLUG lists,
at the sole discretion of the VLUG BoD, under the recommendations of
the moderators of each list.
The VLUG BoD have the right to update this policy document at any
time. Significant changes will be pointed out explicily; small
changes and corrections will be noted by the change in the datestamp
at the top and bottom of this document.
The owner of this list can be reached at discuss-owner@vlug.org.
If you have any problems, feel free to contact me there.
Thanks for participating.
