I have just recently installed Yellow Dog Linux 3.0 on a newer Apple
iBook. I am having issues attempting to install a MSN clone. I have
tried both gaim ( gaim.sf.net ) and amsn ( amsn.sf.net ). I am
completely new to Linux. Here's what I've tried so far:

Gaim

[root@ root]# rpm -vi gaim-0.61-1.ppc.rpm
warning: cannot get shared lock on /var/lib/rpm/Packages
error: Failed dependencies:

        libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3 is needed by gaim-0.61-1

This dependency, I found on rpmfind.net - downloaded and installed.
Now, when I attempt to run the program, I get this output:

[Rick@h24-68-59-239 bin]$ gaim
gaim: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

AMSN

Apparently I need to have Tcl/Tk to run this program - which I do have,
8.3.3, or at least I am pretty sure I do. I am supposed to have a
/usr/bin/wish, which amsn uses to launch its program, but alas, it is
not there. I tried installing ( through the rpm command ) the latest
version of Tcl/Tk, but it said that I already had it installed.

One other question - do I need to find PPC RPMs for all the programs I
download, or is it possible to download the source for some programs and
compile it within this distribution of Linux? Again, very new here... I
would appreciate any help that can be given.

Sincerely,
Rick Bird
