I have upgraded my distribution to Kubunto 8.04. This has resulted in
some updated versions of the software I presented:
JAlbum has now been updated to JAlbum 8.0.4
It now loads much more quickly than version 7.4. The font is not very
clean. Some image correction functions are now included, however the
capability is rather limited and more difficult to use than with some of
the other packages. I have had some problem loading albums (Java errors).
DigiKam has been updated to version 0.9.3. I cannot see too much
difference. The authors say that the support for external (off-line)
albums will be in 0.10.X which is being developed for KDE 4 (which is
available for Kubuntu 8.04 but I am not willing to try that until the
new version of DigiKam is there).
KPhotoAlbum is now updated to version 3.1.1 and the problems with
invoking GIMP for image correction seems to be solved. However, it still
does not recognize my Pentax RAW files, .pef.
F-Spot has been updated to version 0.4.3.1. I had quite a bit of trouble
getting it to work, but I finally succeeded!
Picasa2 has been updated to version 2.7 (Build 37.3615.0 for LINUX) but
does not appear to have changed much. At least I could not see any
difference from the earlier version.
