Thanks for all the comments. I will be updating the information sometime 
soon.
Comments I have received from JAlbum enthusiasts:

TIFF can be handled by adding something to Java (I have not tried to 
figure out how to do that. Also, something called ImageJ is supposed to 
have lots of interesting capabilities, but again, not knowing much about 
Java and how to add plugins, I have not tried it either).
There is a new version of JAlbum (Version 8 Beta)

which is supposed to support corrections, etc.

KPhotoAlbum enthusiasts tell me there is a new version (3.1.1) available 
which is supposed to fix all my problems. I think it is probably in the 
repositories for Kubuntu 8.04. I will likely give it a try after I 
upgrade my OS.
