Yes and no.  I see your point (I didn't realize they were sending a 
firmware update to the modem automatically).  However, I do think Shaw 
is well within their rights to say "if you wish to use our service you 
must have a modem which has its standby button disabled".  Where I agree 
that they crossed the line is when they automatically forced a firmware 
update upon users when they own the modem.

Feel free to call your lawyer if you're really peeved. :p
