Having copied the yyyyy.default file in the 
~/.thunderbird/xxxxxxx.default directory to the new to the new 
~/.thunderbird/yyyyyy.default directory you need to edit the 
profiles.ini file in the same directory.

change the line

Path=xxxxxx.default

to read

Path=yyyyyy.default
