I have Kubuntu on two computers, one with Windows XP (with NTFS) and the
other with Vista. I have no problem accessing the NTFS drives. However,
I cannot remember now if I had to install something like ntfs-3g from
Adept or Synaptic. You could do a search on that from either and see if
you have it installed, if not, try to do so.
