WPA-PSK - Wireless Protected Access Pre-Shared Key. WPA is a
replacement for WEP which stands for Wired Equivalent Privacy. WEP is
just too easy to hack so it has been replaced by WPA. WPA comes in 2
flavors - PSK which means that everybody that connects uses the same
password and enterprise which uses a different userid and password for
each user and thus a different encryption of the data stream. WPA
Enterprise is not well supported by the various OS's as far as I know
other than XP. For this reason most public/open implementations of
wireless use either WEP or WPA-PSK, so you don't need to carry your
router around. I just fired up my $15 router at home so that I could
connect, and am not willing to change my normal home system from
WPA-Enterprise. I am still learning things about it.

London Drugs had a Boxing Week special of $14.95 some no name thing. I
bought one just cause it might come in handy, but it is still in the
plastic wrap so I have no comment on its value. Watch the ads these
things show up from Future Shop, London Drugs, ... fairly often.

It occurs to me, since you asked this question, that you are attempting
to connect to a wireless router that is not yours. If this is the case,
the router will most likely be:

WEP with or without password.
WPA with or without password.
open no passwords but with MAC (I forget the meaning of the acronym, but
it is the ethernet hardware address of the wireless device) filtering -
means you have to register your MAC address with whomever is running the
router. If this is the case ask again and I will tell you how to find
the MAC address.

The EEE PC supports both WEP and WPA With or without encryption (read
password). Click the appropriate boxes.

Hope this helps.

Deid
