One thing to watch out for is when you create your virtual hard drive;
the default is a 4GB dynamic drive which means that it will only take up
the space you use UP TO A MAXIMUM of 4GB. Not, as I thought incorrectly
reading the manual, a minumum 4GB to any maximum. So if you are
planning to actually use the installation and not just test it out, pick
something useful say 10 or 20GB. My 4GB choked when I tried to install
Open Office, not enough room. However, I found a workaround! You can
add an additional two virtual hard drives just like a real computer i.e.
Primary master is created with the initial installation and the CDRom is
on Secondary Master, leaving Primary and Secondary slaves available for
extra drives. So create a second drive big enough for your needs say
10GB attach it to the Virtual Machine, then curiously you have to format
it just like a real drive before the guest OS will "see" it and get the
OS to recognize new hardware. Then you need a tool to clone your 4GB
drive onto your 10GB drive (I used True Image) and change the 10GB drive
to Primary Master and reboot.

Have fun.

John
