I used QTW in 2001. I hit the browser check problem, and emailed a
question about it. They forwarded me to a website tech, who wrote:
To use QuickTaxWeb with Netscape for Linux you can skip the browser
check page by going directly to this URL:
https://www.quicktaxweb.ca/secure/signin
Unfortunately, however, we can't support it (at least not yet) due to
limited resources in our Quality Assurance department. Several of us
on the QuickTaxWeb development team are also Linux users (in fact
QuickTaxWeb is served entirely by Linux servers!)
So there you go. I used them for a few years via the "brotherhood back door",
with no problems. Recently Ufile officially allowed Linux, so I switched to
them on principle. I have not tried QTW in a two or so years. The only
reason to disallow a system is if they were implementing non-standard
HTML/javascript, or if my system was. IceWeasel/Firefox is compliant, so no
problem.
So when I hit a site like that, I tell them who I am, that I am technically
competent, and that I use Linux/GNU. If I can use their service, maybe with
User Agent "lying" (User Agent Switcher extension), I do so, and tell them
of my success. If they make it hard, I find an alternative.
