That is correct -- I am only using dd to backup the Windows C drives and
the peculiar (LINUX says it is type 27) little first partition on the
Windows system. For other drives and LINUX, I can just copy the files
to another hard drive or to DVDs. For LINUX, I have been able to recover
from the rare disaster with just my home directory and /etc copied.
However, for a Windows C drive, the disk geometry must be preserved in
order for the OS to boot and run properly. So far, I have not saved any
historical drive images -- I wanted to make sure what I had done worked
properly. Now, I will start to keep a separate copy on a different hard
drive so that if something goes wrong with the latest one, I will have
at least one earlier one. Maybe I will even go for three different
copies! Thanks for the suggestion.

Murray
