John:
In support of the decision by the BOD (of which I am one) to postpone the
AGM due to lack of interest and lack of willing candidates for the BOD, not
to mention some other volunteer positions which are sorely
needed........Andrew posted a plea to this list at the beginning of this
month in which he indicated the positions, their duties and how badly we
needed some candidates. I don't believe he had any response whatsover. I am
one of the few who has committed to being on the BOD again though I can't
take on a demanding position as I'm also President of Big Blue & Cousins.
There is clearly an increase in interest in Linux which is indicated by the
members of BB&C who have begun to install and use it. Hopefully VLUG can
come up with presentations which will be of interest to people like these to
come out to the meetings. A couple of months ago the suggestion was made to
try what other groups are doing: having the monthly meeting split into 2
sections - the early part for newbies and the second part for 'geeks'. This
way, the geeks don't necessarily need to sit through basic stuff that they
know in their sleep, while the newbies can stay for the second part or not
but needn't feel intimidated during first section...... This is a suggestion
which may have some merit and I'd love to see some feedback on it here. If,
for example, at 7pm we have a demo Linux install for newbies then at 8 the
'geeks' or 'not-so newbies' arrive to share the break then the 'experienced'
presentation could start at 8:30 till 9:30.......or something similar......
Meanwhile John, we have your name for the AGM to be held at a later date<G>
