Three files were in the E-mail. I have since received the iPhoto LARGE
versions of the images. These are quite a bit smaller (and, in fact, a
bit lower resolution than I would have liked). Two of the files opened
just fine with the GIMP, but one still gives that GIMP error message
(running version 2.2). I can certainly VIEW all the images with no
problem, upload them to an Album in Google's Picasa2 and view them from
there -- no problem. I will try Alan's suggestion of looking at the HEX
for the header of the images to see what is there. It may be something
peculiar that GIMP doesn't like, but which Konqueror, Gwenview, Google,
etc. all ignore. The background in these images is still large; the
images are 960X1280 but the background is 171MB which seems
ridiculous! I am not sure where GIMP gets this information, or how it
is used -- but such huge backgrounds sure do slow down the loading and
saving!
