Peter, along with Noel's suggestions you might also like to try the bash FAQ
at http://wooledge.org/mywiki/BashFaq. That's a most useful link Barbara
just discovered the other day as part of her loll.sf.net work.  The Bash FAQ
is based on frequently asked questions on the channel #bash on the IRC
network, and it is absolutely loaded with all kinds of interesting bash
examples.
