You CAN hook the set-top-box to your computer, you can also record any of the
non-digital channels on your pc as well. But, unless you have a 5c compliant
device to do the recording you will not be able to store the content of the
digital and thus HD channels.

Note: 5c is not encryption... it's just a protection (flag) scheme.

Yah it's called an IR blaster and they work perfectly since I myself use one.
