I cannot give you chapter and verse on the bugs, but let's just say there
were a number of weird things that happened to me with CVS at SourceForge
over the years. Usually, you could get out of it by repeating the CVS
command, but it never gave the impression of being a rock-solid piece of
software.

The feature that struck me immediately was subversion's ability to rename
and copy files and directories (while keeping track of all the history of
the file/directory) means you are not fighting with your version control
system each time you refactor your code. The other nice thing about
subversion is that it takes CVS users about 15 minutes to pick it up. There
are a lot of differences which are detailed in an Appendix in the subversion
book (downloadable from http://svnbook.red-bean.com/), but these differences
tend to be fairly subtle deeper stuff so they are not a barrier to entry.
