I'll jump in.

I think it depends on how you approach editing text. If you are only
typing a paragraph straight, sure, it might not help.

But you _edit_ a message: you might cut and paste, reorganize text,
reformat, indent, insert info from different sources, move around the
message. 

Say you want to insert the output from a program, or insert a file
into the message. 

And you can automize!


And you don't have to learn several modes for editing: just one. It is
not about keystrokes. It is about the editing paradigm
