Would there be, on discuss at vlug.org, a person from Victoria and
surroundings willing to provide me consulting services for the
following:
I just bought a new machine, an HP 8000, with Vista Home Premium on
it. It is machine with considerable potential as a media centre. I
installed my usual Win programs on the Windows Vista partition (which
initially covered the whole hard drive.
Then, I installed Linux (Mandriva 2007.1 (Spring) PowerPack, and to that
effect reduced the Windows partition to 150 Gig, which is ample,
My Mandriva distrib is comfortably set in another 150 GB of the
remaining space on the 500GB Hard drive. I did the update proposed by
the distrib, and added a few of my usual Linux programs
I am no media expert by far: an absolute novice, but I'd like to learn,
My linux installation presents some flaws. On starting, it does not find
the soundcard.(perhaps because I have not plugged speakers...)
However, I am also stuck in my updates for the installation of two dkms
and nvidia files by the absence of libSG.so.1.
Also, when launching the linux option on grub, I see a number of failed
operations ( kernels and ati files not installed,etc..).
Also, I do not know how to use the media centre either in Windows or in
Linux.
Anyone willing to help during the day or on evenings for a reasonable
fee?
All the best
Yves Bajard
