Both emacs and xemacs will work either with or without windowing. In
both cases the argument is the same -nw for no_windows. Default is to
use X, both versions.
BTW xemacs and emacs parted company some years ago. Don't recall why.
xemacs is IMHO more suited to windowing and emacs to non.
But I'm afraid I don't know the answer to the original question...:-)
