I'll bite. What OS are you switching to?
I don't have any experience with Mandrake, but from the update troubles with
Mandrake that people mention here including your own, I doubt it is really
representative of the package reliability of other Linux distros.
So I hope you are not abandoning Linux altogether with your "OS switch", and
instead you are going to move to a more reliably packaged distro. I have
had good package reliability experience with Debian and (to a slightly
lesser extent) with the Debian derivative Ubuntu, but I am sure there are
non-Mandrake rpm-based distros that have reliable packaging as well.
