Hello VLUG.

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Richard Schwarting and
I am a 4th year computer science student at the University of Guelph
in Ontario. I've come to Victoria for a co-op work term this semester
(but haven't actually still need to secure a job for that :o so I
might not be around for long ;). I generally use Slackware (when I
have the time) and Ubuntu (when I don't), and I live almost
exclusively under GNOME.

I was curious as to how Linux fairs for others on computers with 256MB
of RAM. My experience has generally been that running multiple apps
in GNOME with that little RAM inevitably leads to swapping, where my
multiple apps are Firefox, Rhythmbox, Gaim, and Nautilus. OpenOffice
generally proves incredibly painful. Particularly, do any KDE users
have such complaints?

Cheers!
  Richard Schwarting
