[Discuss] sluggish linux hard drive

Good evening

Our rather big photo printing machine at work (Japan Camera) has started
to go wonky.
Our tech support in Vancouver told us the hard drive in said machine
could be getting sluggish. He didn't know too much about defragging the
drive, so I tried myself.
I took it out and put it in another windows computer, and it couldn't be
recognized.
So for some reason, I put in a Linux live cd (everyone carries a spare
cd in their backpacks, right?)
It turns out to be a linux drive with about 7 partitions.

I thought linux drives didn't need to be defragged, so I'm at a loss on
how to clean it up.
Is there a checkdisk equivalent. Something I can do to fix. It could be
getting old.
They don't seem to be in too much of a hurry to send a tech.
I was hoping I could transfer the info to a new drive. Hows the best way
to do this?

David
