[Discuss] stitching images together in The Gimp ??

You might try by just creating a new Gimp image that is large enough to 
hold all the images you are trying to stitch, then pasting the 
individual images into it. You shouldn't need to worry about layers. I 
have done this type of thing OK, but not exactly what you are doing.
