Thanks to the three of you who reacted to my question about the root
password in Ubuntu.6.06

Fine. It is easy to play with sudo or to create a root password

This leaves me with the question of what to do with the “input not
supported“ issue. 

Here is the question again:

“when trying to customize the distro to my tastes and add programs,
at some point, the screen blacked out and a while label came out with in
red letter “UNPUT NOT SUPPORTED“

The machine froze and I had to switch of an restrart again. That time in
Mandriva to do my current work.

I re-installed several times, always with the same problems: no question
asking me my /root passwordanbd the freezing while customizing.“
